A day on hegman with the guys, 7-25-16
We portaged to south hegman from the parking lot and headed out on our adventure. The next portage was very short so we prepped our fishing tackle. The guys were very enthusiastic and happy. We were soon at the hot spot. Fishing was good. After a couple hours we headed for the pictographs. They were beautiful, we admired how they had lasted over two hundred years. We also talked about how they could be a clue to a treasure in the bwca. We paddled a little farther and observed the dozens of pitcher plants growing on a floating bog. There was a discussion on how they caught bugs in their pitcher and ate them. We got out of the canoes and bounced on the bog. It was a lot of fun. Next it was up a cliff to eat blueberries and look at the bog from above. It had been an excellent day and we were all very happy to enjoy the good weather and all the fishing action and sites. What a good group of guys.

Zadie; Jana, and Lake one 7-18-2016
It was a most perfect day. Not too hot, not too windy and sun with beautiful white puffy clouds. We paddled with ease and freedom. Our first destination was an eagles nest. We watched for some time before we saw an eaglet peek it's head out of the nest. We saw no mature birds. We continued to our next destination. We paddled to Pagami Creek. It was in full bloom with Water Lilies. It was beautiful. We took photos and then headed for an island lunch break. It was a well deserved break because we had all paddled long and hard to get this far. Our trip back to the landing was notable in that we saw the eagles, a loon, merganzers and lots of other day trippers. We arrived there somewhat spent but knowing we had a great day.

Lyle, Hope, April, and Daniel on hegman lakes, 7-15-2016
Daniel and I carried the two canoes across a 120 rod portage down to hegman lake. After some brief instruction we headed for parts north. After a short paddle we crossed another but shorter five rod portage. There,
we prepared our fishing tackle for the next hunt for the elusive Small mouth bass. We went to my favorite spot and Daniel caught a nice large bass in the first five minutes. We fished there and worked our way north catching a couple more smaller ones. Meanwhile the girls and Lyle toured around near us. The next thing on our agenda was to view the pictographs. They were splendid in the afternoon light. Our next stop was the floating bog. The girls and Daniel all bounced on the floating masses of soil and plants. We also looked at the dozens of Pitcher Plants. We talked about what a bog was and how it floated. We also discussed how the Pitcher Plants catch bugs and eat them. Next it was to the top of the overlook. It was a tough climb. While on top we took photos, ate lunch, rested, ate blue berries and talked. It was a glorious day. We fished more on the way back and stopped to clean the fish. I enjoyed their company greatly.

The He family on lake one. July, 9-10, 2016
The four of us paddled valiantly into a stiff head wind. Kui, Ma and Chloe and I were loaded into a Wenona Seneca. It was a load but we moved right along with everyone making a substantial contribution to getting us there. Ma was the grandma and she was 65. Chloe was seven and they both paddled hard from the middle seat. Kui was in the bow and he was good help in keeping the 19 1/2 foot canoe headed down the lake. Camp was made and Kui, Chloe and I had our sights on Pagami Creek. Ma stayed behind to rest. The creek was blooming with thousands of Lotus flowers or as we call them water lilies. It was a nice trip up the creek. We rested at Tory Island. Then headed for camp. Supper was pizza. The weather turned cool and windy. We all went to bed early. In the morning we had pancakes and bacon. We headed back to the landing and only took one rest stop. It was a great trip, and I really enjoyed their company.
groff's on Lake One , July 6, 2016
It was a nice day with only a little wind to fight. We made our way down the southern channel of Lake One to the central part of the lake. There we saw the "dangerous waters" that flow from Lake Two. We took a little break and headed south again to Pagami Creek. We paddled for a half mile through thousands of white lilies. It was beautiful. Afterwards we stopped at an island for a snack and a rest period... it was a beautiful day to be in the BWCA. We were with the wind and waves all the way home to the lake one landing. it was a nice day with very nice people.

Kris Jensen and her kids on Lake One, 6-29-30-2016
The four of us battled the wind southward through lake one. we arrived at our campsite exhausted. We made camp quickly and headed for a favorite fishing hole. We had no luck. again , we fought the wind to get back to camp. During the evening while fixing supper we had a down pour.. we sat under the tarp and ate our delicious beef stroganof. Everyone went to bed early. Our new and much better day offered a chance to fish some more. But before we left we ate bacon and bass that we caught the evening before while casting from shore. We toured some islands with me and the girl fishing while the mom and son explored the wilderness islands. While on shore the girl tied into an enormous fish but it broke off before we could get the net on it. It must have been a northern. That afternoon on the way out the winds were strong from the north as we headed straight into them. Again, headwinds.
