Bill, Ruth and a bear on lake one, 9,20-21,2018

We paddled down lake one on a glorious day.  The trees, water and rocks shimmered in the sunlight.  We passed several good campsites while looking for the perfect one.  We found it in the middle of the lake near good fishing and vistas.   We pitched the tarp after Ruth did the tent and sleeping bags.  It was supposed to rain starting in mid afternoon.   We had lunch and took a nap. Sure enough it started to rain at two thirty but we slept on.  At six thirty we crawled out of the tent and under the tarp as it was still raining.     We had hot dogs and salad for supper, visited for a while and went back to the tent.  We slept soundly until 2 am when we heard the food barrel tip over.  We   knew it was a bear.  So for two hours we listened to him bang the barrel and chew on it.   We watched him with our headlamps and he was a big one.   Ruth went back to sleep and i listened till four am.  He must have eaten all the food and left.  I slept till 7:30.  We packed up after a leisurely breakfast of peanut butter that he couldn't get out of the barrel, and coffee.  It had mostly stopped raining and was shaping up to be a beautiful day.  I was sad to leave.

the geezer trip with, Duane, Ruth, Perry and Elizabeth and Corey.7-24-28-18

We met at the landing at 8 am.   We were on the water by thirty after eight.   Duane and Ruth were paddling with me in the Seneca.   It was a beautiful day. Green trees, blue water and gray rocks. All glimmering in the sunshine.  We found an empty campsite in about an hour and a half.  It was big enough for all three of our tents.   We didn't pitch the tarp because the forecast was so good.    We lounged and paddled and read and relaxed  for the afternoon.  At one fifteen Corey showed up in a solo boat.   We were very glad he made it.   He was going to spend the whole four days but because of family responsibilities he could only spend a few hours.  Duane and Ruth started a real nice fire to grill the steaks on.   We had salads too.      We spent a nice evening with Corey leaving about six thirty.    Wednesday we had a nice breakfast and spent the morning drinking coffee.  I took a nap and rested for the afternoon.  It was too windy to paddle and fish so we stayed in camp.   It was chicken noodle delight for supper.    Thursday we did some paddling and fishing.  Mostly just enjoyed the glorious wilderness environment.  Friday we packed up and paddled out.  It was a beautiful morning.
